Lighting techniques designed to meet lighting needs are based on :

photometry, whose values are :
- luminous intensity (in candela - cd),
- luminous flux (in lumen – lm),
- illuminance (in lux – lx),
- luminance (in candela per square metre – cd.m ^-2 );
colorimetry, whose variables are color temperature (T _cp in Kelvin – K) and color rendering index (CRI or R _a on a scale from 0 to 100).
