ABSTRACT

Compression refrigerating machines are widely used as cold production, air-conditioning and preservation of food systems... Amongst them, single-stage mechanical compression refrigeration systems are the object of a significant development. It is thus necessary to have good understanding of the phenomena involved. The calculation of a single-stage machine requires the drafting of both fundamental and technical cycles. This approach leads to the selection of the characteristics and performances of the machine and thus to that of the compressor and its performances. The setting modes of the thermic power then have to meet the demand regarding cold and heat production even under the most critical conditions.

 INTRODUCTION

A good knowledge of compression refrigeration cycles is of major importance, which justifies the development reserved for them. After providing general information on refrigeration systems in the previous dossier [BE 9 730] , this dossier looks at single-stage mechanical compression refrigeration cycles: cycle layout, study of the single-stage machine, influence of the machine's operating conditions on its characteristics, and ways of adjusting refrigeration capacity.

The following [BE 9 732] dossier is devoted to multi-stage compression refrigeration cycles and, in particular, two-stage machines. A study of cascade refrigeration cycles completes the text. The [BE 9 733] dossier focuses on active fluids in compression machines: refrigerants and their impact on the environment.
