3. Scroll or spiro-orbital compressor

The scroll compressor, originally known as [16] , was invented and patented in the USA in 1905 by the Frenchman Léon Creux, and was further developed in the USA in the 1970s. Its first applications were in small (low-power) air-conditioning systems, in particular by the DWM-Copeland group, then in air-conditioning systems by the Trane company. The main manufacturers of this type of compressor are listed in table 5 .
