5. Storage outlook to 2030

One way of reducing the negative impact of intermittent production is to store electrical energy during periods of overproduction (or even to consider this production as totally storable, to ensure load following in the event of subsequent need). There are many storage processes, but their performance varies widely. Figure 24 compares their relative performances, the aim being to have both high power (GW) and high capacity (GWh), i.e. long discharge times (tens of hours, days).
