Various CO 2 storage operations have already been completed or are in the process of being set up (table 4 ).

  • In Europe

    In the North Sea, the Norwegian company Statoil has been capturing one million tonnes of CO 2 per year from natural gas on the Sleipner field since 1996, and reinjecting this CO 2 into a saline aquifer 1,000 m below the seafloor.

    A European platform, the ZEP (Zero Emission Platform), has been set up, to examine how to develop and deploy fossil-fuel power plants with CO 2 capture and storage. Electric utility Vattenfall is currently building...
