2. Condensation of steam mixtures
Two approaches are used to study the condensation of mixtures. The first approach, known as "film theory", was introduced by Colburn and Hougen and is presented by Bontemps. Condensation of vapor mixtures. Heat and mass transfer. The second approach is based on the solution of "fluid mechanics" equations and is presented in this text. Because of the difficulties involved in solving the equations, this approach can now be used for simple geometries only.
2.1 Condensation in the presence of non-condensable gases
The presence of non-condensable gases considerably reduces the heat exchange coefficient. The molecules of these gases are brought to the condensation surface by the movement of vapors, giving rise to thermal resistance at the interface....
