6. The fluidized bed as a mixer

In a heterogeneous fluidization regime, the presence of ascending gas bubble trains promotes internal mixing of the divided solids making up the bed.

These bubbles originate at the air distributor and carry particles in their wake as they rise, bringing particles initially close to the distributor to the surface of the bed (figure 11 ).
