7. Gamma-ray spectrometry measurements
In crisis situations, γ-spectrometry, a qualitative and quantitative measurement technique that requires no sample processing and is therefore non-destructive, is suitable for all matrices (air, water, soil, sediment, plants). It should be used wherever possible. CETAMA's "Dossier de recommandation pour l'optimisation des mesures" ( ) describes all the essential aspects of γ spectrometry applied to environmental samples. Only those aspects specific to the use of this measurement technique in crisis situations are covered here.
