A formal way of characterizing the quality of a programmed system is to assess its compliance with a well-chosen set of standards. This evaluation is an essential assessment criterion for the safety authority, especially for the most severe category (1E for French levels).
2.1 French bearings and RCC-E
In 1976, representatives of the French Ministry of Industry, CEA, EDF and Framatome decided to draw up a codification based not on general, abstract considerations, but on the actual construction of nuclear units and the technical players involved (safety organizations, operators, manufacturers, suppliers and subcontractors).
