3. Conclusion

SPHINX represents a real step forward in the development of fire containment strategies for premises holding hazardous materials. It complements the usual measures (sectioning, static barriers, etc.) and guarantees their resistance to the pressure conditions generated by a fire. In this way, SPHINX helps to limit the ultimate consequences for the environment of a major fire capable of damaging the lines of defence between the hazardous materials and the environment.

SPHINX therefore opens up new prospects as a complementary – or even replacement – to current solutions. Its performance and reliability, based on nuclear design and construction principles, will soon be of interest to all facilities that hold and contain hazardous materials, and for which environmental protection remains a major concern.
