In the 1970s, the HTR projects studied were for reactors ranging from 500 to 1,200 MW in electrical power, and in the USA in particular, General Atomic had received several orders for reactors rated at 1,160 MW in electrical power. However, start-up difficulties at Fort St-Vrain and the difficult nuclear situation in the United States put paid to these commercial hopes, and all orders were subsequently cancelled.

In Germany, there was a project for 500 MW of electrical power, but here too, and despite the fact that the HTR sector is considered a national sector in Germany, the THTR 300 experience has not been followed up by any commercial projects.
