6. Conclusion
Transmutation of minor actinides has been under intensive study since 1991. Initially focused on transmutation in ADS and RNR-Na in homogeneous and heterogeneous mode in inert-supported targets, studies are now continuing on heterogeneous recycling in fertile blankets. In all cases, the composition, design and irradiation conditions of these new fuels require qualification through experimental programs designed to control their performance and behavior in all situations. Thanks in particular to the Phénix reactor until 2009, these programs have already produced a significant number of promising results. They are now being pursued in the thermal neutron experimental reactors in operation and available in Europe: OSIRIS in France and HFR in the Netherlands.
