Post-treatments are designed to improve the mechanical properties of the parts, firstly by eliminating defects inherent to the process (porosity, roughness, residual stresses) and secondly by modifying the microstructure.

Removal of internal porosity is typically achieved using Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP)
