As we have seen in the previous sections, carbon nanotubes have very rich photoluminescence properties. These properties can be used for metrology and materials characterization applications, as well as for imaging in the field of biology. .
The field of photonics is also very rich in potential applications for carbon nanotubes. Briefly, the photon is to photonics what the electron is to electronics. The field of photonics therefore concerns the generation, processing and propagation of optical signals, by means of devices.
