1.1 Magnetic moment
The magnetism of atoms results from the movement of electrons, which induce an orbital magnetic moment, associated with their revolution around the nucleus, and a spin magnetic moment, associated with their rotation on themselves. . The total magnetic moment is the vector combination of orbital and spin moments. The order of magnitude of the atomic magnetic moment is the Bohr magneton, defined by :
