5. Examples of applications for rare-earth-doped thin films produced by LPE
5.1 Laser oscillator in waveguide configuration
The use of rare-earth-doped single-crystal thin-film laser oscillators in a waveguide configuration enables the pump beam to be confined in at least one direction, thus lowering laser thresholds. Thermal load management of the gain medium can also be improved by the system geometry. In addition, such laser devices have the advantage of being compact, enabling the development of miniaturized systems effective at different wavelengths.
