2. The various ways of joining wood

The article , Mise en œuvre du bois contains a number of tables listing all the different types of wood assembly, indicating their uses and the mechanical strengths that can be obtained... and we strongly recommend that our readers refer to them for terminology, the advantages and disadvantages of each type of assembly, the cost of construction and the mechanical strength of these assemblies.

Almost all the assembly methods mentioned involve gluing, whether flat, butt, finger-jointed, etc. The only assemblies that don't require glue are those using screws or nails.
