5. Tool set-up and maintenance
Machine set-up (MAP) and maintenance are important and still indispensable phases in the development and use of press tools.
Understanding this means integrating the following two notions:
the design of the tool includes an element of risk, however small;
the tool wears out from the very first press stroke.
5.1 Tool adjustment
Today, it is not possible to design a tool without going through MAP, at the risk of producing a tool that will not be able to produce the part with the required characteristics, and whose operation will adversely affect production. This aspect of tool development is not always well understood by the customer....
