7. Arc welding application

7.1 Basic equipment

Arc welding processes use typical basic equipment, the main elements of which are shown in the various schematic diagrams for each process. The essential elements are as follows.

  • A tool generally referred to as a torch (manual torch, MAG torch, TIG torch, etc.) is highly process-specific in terms of electrode type (rod, continuous wire, tungsten rod) and protection (flux, gas).

    For high power ratings, the torch must be cooled by circulating water.

    There are manual versions incorporated in a handle and fitted with a remote welding control switch, and automatic versions in bar form (figure 40...
