2. Hydraulic sources of permanent excitation

Generally speaking, the aim is to quantify, in terms of the torque applied to the rotor, the cyclic variations in pressure and speed on the contact surfaces between the mechanical part in question (propeller blades, turbo-machine impeller vanes) and the surrounding fluid.

Example

Among the main factors responsible for torsional excitation of boat propellers, we'd like to highlight the following:

  • the movement of the sea and of the boat;

  • a point defect affecting a blade ;

  • the proximity of the fairing.
