2. Additives acting physically at liquid-solid interfaces
2.1 Organometallic detergent additives
One of the major roles of engine oils is to ensure the cleanliness of surfaces and circuits by neutralizing or evacuating undesirable products: combustion soot, products of oxidation and thermal degradation of the lubricant (varnish, carbon, sediments), cold sludge, wear debris, water and coolant, etc. through :
detergent additives that act on the hottest parts of the engine: pistons, rings, turbocharger turbine bearings, preventing deposits from adhering to surfaces;
dispersant additives, which act on cold parts such as the oil sump, timing gear housing, cylinder head cover, cylinder head cover, oil filter, oil strainer and oil pump, keeping solid and liquid impurities...

Additives acting physically at liquid-solid interfaces
Economic data
Lubricant additives are commercially available either as elementary additives or base components or, increasingly, as pre-formulated additives known as "additive packages", "performance additives" or "packages".
The former are mainly used in the preparation of industrial oils, metalworking lubricants and greases, or as complementary additives...
