3. Valve spring optimization

Various experiments carried out on valve springs show that natural frequency, coil displacement and end forces are obtained with good accuracy when the spring is assimilated to an equivalent bar.

To optimize spring dimensions, we propose to follow the algorithm below, which uses the results obtained with the continuous, undamped model operating in air.

A discretized model will be used when the external damping due to oil mist can no longer be considered negligible.
