2. Reference systems

Today, design quality is based on a number of standards. There are two types of standards in this field: basic or system standards, and operational standards used during the product design phase:

  • Basic standards are organizational standards that require or recommend a minimum number of organizational measures to be implemented in order to guarantee a minimum level of process control (e.g. NF ISO 9001-11.2008 and similar standards);

  • operational standards are supporting reference systems, specifying procedures to be implemented and therefore to be considered as tools (e.g. NF EN 16 271-02.2013 and similar).
