2. Load distribution between fasteners in an eccentrically loaded assembly
The general problem of the distribution of forces between two flat parts, subjected to any loading, joined by several bolts (or rivets) adjusted without play and tightened appropriately, of different dimensions and of any arrangement in the plane, has no satisfactory analytical solution. It can only be dealt with accurately using finite element simulation, provided we are able to produce a relevant model, i.e. one that is sufficiently simple to keep calculation time to a minimum, while at the same time accurately representing the complex behavior of these connections - a difficult exercise even for an experienced operator.
Given these difficulties, a number of analytical approaches have been proposed, with varying degrees of precision and adapted to certain types of calculation.
