3.1 General expression

The amount of work τ that a fluid can reversibly exchange is made up of the variation in its useful (i.e. transformable) forms of energy: piezometric (corresponding to static pressure), kinetic and potential position energies. As the variation in the latter is always negligible when a gas-carrying turbomachine is traversed, relationship (32) in allows us to write :
