Mathematician and physicist Joseph FOURIER is probably one of the most visionary scientific precursors in the field of understanding global warming. As early as 1824, FOURIER proposed a first outline of the greenhouse effect mechanism, formulating the hypothesis that gases in the atmosphere increased their temperature.
The theory of global warming was formally formulated as early as 1896 by Svante August ARRHENIUS
