2. Support design method

2.1 Objectives

Support design is often the most neglected part of installation design, either because its importance has been downplayed, or because design costs have been deliberately kept to a minimum. The result is costly improvisation during installation, and faulty operation of the system. It is therefore essential to fully appreciate the importance of support, and to judiciously integrate the corresponding design phases with general installation studies.

Pipe support will be considered satisfactory if the following objectives are met:

  • low design costs ;

  • low cost and short lead times;

  • ease of assembly;
