3. Spark plug

3.1 Main functions

In spark-ignition engines, combustion of the air-fuel mixture is initiated by an electric spark supplied by the ignition system. The spark plug is the element that introduces this spark into the heart of the combustion chamber, while ensuring that the latter remains sealed (figure 24 ).
