3. Storage modes

Tank geometry is closely linked to the nature of the stored product and its volatility at storage temperature. As this volatility is known, different storage modes can be envisaged. They can be classified according to the pressure and operating temperature of the stored liquid, given the relationship between these two parameters.

3.1 Volatile liquids that do not boil at room temperature

Their normal boiling point is above room temperature, and their absolute vapour pressure at room temperature is less than 1.013 bar. At room temperature θ a , the effective pressure above the liquid is therefore zero.
