4. Kaplan turbines and propeller

Kaplan and propeller turbines are reaction and total injection machines suited to low heads and high flows (the Kaplan turbine has adjustable running blades, the propeller turbine has fixed blades). Their general structure (figure 25 ) is the same as that of vertical-axis Francis turbines. However, the flow in the rotor is purely axial.
