7. Conclusion
Modeling the cycle of an internal combustion engine follows two approaches, referred to as pseudodimensional (thermodynamic) and multidimensional. Both categories have been applied with great success, but also with reservations. Let's not forget that, over and above the quest for increased performance, the reduction of pollutant emissions remains the overriding objective of this century. Complementary approaches to modeling, experimentation and simulations all contribute to a better understanding of physical phenomena.
This document is intended as a basis for work on zero-dimensional thermodynamic modeling of internal combustion engine cycles. The contents do not claim to be exhaustive concerning sub-models.
