6.1 Technical aspects
Every supercharged engine project is designed to meet one of two alternative needs:
supercharging, or reinforcing the supercharging, of an existing engine (most frequent situation);
create an engine "adapted" to supercharging from scratch.
The approach followed in these two cases is more or less the same: depending on the performance targets, the supercharging mode is chosen, and the "size" (cubic capacity, number of cylinders, maximum rotation speed) of the engine and the sizing of the supercharging machine are determined.
