All equipment operating in a natural environment has the potential to cause environmental pollution through accidental oil leaks. The use of biolubricants can help address these concerns. The market penetration of biolubricants is still very low today, although there is a wide range on offer and this solution is set for strong growth in the near future. In Europe as a whole, only a handful of real regulatory constraints concern protected sites such as HQE (high environmental quality) worksites, which present greater constraints in terms of environmental protection.
No precise data is currently available to quantify the market for plant-based lubricants or biolubricants, either at European or national level. There are still no European regulations directly imposing eco-compatibility criteria for lubrication applications!
