4. Upgrading hemicelluloses extracted by autohydrolysis

4.1 Fermentation of C6 sugars to ethanol

In the case of softwoods, most of the hemicelluloses are C6 sugars, derived from galactoglucomannans. One way of converting these sugars is to ferment them into alcohol . We have studied the case of ethanol fermentation by the yeast classically used for this purpose, Saccharomyces cerevisiae.
