5. Conclusion
This article provides a scientific and technical update on the properties of tannins. Tannins possess multiple virtues, which our distant ancestors of the Upper Paleolithic had already begun to observe. Today, new technologies have enabled us to rediscover that they are plant extracts with multiple properties and uses. Their use is set to increase in the coming years, whether for the production of new materials or therapeutic treatments. A number of studies on different aspects of new pharmaceutical applications for tannins are in preparation, although these have not yet been published. The idea is not only to use the more traditional commercial tannins, but also to broaden the possible sources of molecules. Plants from traditional pharmacopoeia could provide flavonoid monomers and oligomers with specific roles such as anti-inflammatory, anti-seizure and many others. The other promising...
