5. Computational fluid dynamics modeling

Hydrothermal oxidation reactors, whether operated in continuous or batch mode, are the site of highly coupled physico-chemical phenomena (heat exchanges, flow regimes ranging from laminar to turbulent, highly exothermic chemical reactions, mineral precipitation, etc.). With improved computational resources, the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) approach has taken off in the supercritical fluids community, to prepare the sizing and design tools needed to go from laboratory to industrial scale.

  • Precise knowledge of thermophysical (density, enthalpy, heat capacity) and transport (viscosity, thermal conductivity) data is required for water/air/organic waste/CO 2 mixtures.
