3. Membrane installation

Polymer membranes in film or hollow fiber form are assembled in modules or permeators.

3.1 Hollow fiber modules

Modules are produced by assembling a few thousand to over a million elementary fibers, representing a cumulative length of up to 1,000 km, for membrane surfaces of over 500 m 2 .

A hollow fiber module has the structure of a tubular exchanger, with a high-pressure (HP) circuit and a low-pressure (BP) circuit, a tube side and a shell side (figure 6 ).
