7. Conclusion

Microgravity experimentation does not start and end on the International Space Station. A myriad of facilities in space, flying through the atmosphere, or on the ground are accessible to scientists from all over the world. Each one has its own specific differences, so it must be chosen with great care to satisfy the needs of the experiment and the experimenter as fully as possible.

The biological sample is placed into dedicated space equipment (experimental unit or experimental cassette), a mini-bioreactor to ensure its survival. 

For experiments in space, a space system is not merely a space segment that accommodates the experiment. There is also a ground segment to control it and to monitor the running of that experiment during the flight. All of this could only exist following on from the development and approval arrangements put in place...
