4. Magnetotactic bacteria and biotechnology
MTBs and their magnetic inclusions have interesting magnetic, physical and optical properties that can be and are being exploited in a wide range of scientific, commercial and medical applications (for review: [120] [121] [122] [123] [124]). While the number of applications and patents involving MTBs is growing, the problem of mass culturing these organisms and harvesting their magnetosomes in large quantities remains.
