2. Algoraffinage or valorization of microalgae extracts

Algoraffining involves extracting molecules of interest from microalgae through a series of unitary processes. The analogy with plant-based biorefineries is immediate [CHV 602] . However, algoraffining is less mature and, due to the microscopic nature of microalgae and the high water content resulting in a highly diluted medium to be processed, this stage requires the implementation of often specific processes, most of which still need to be developed and optimized to reach industrial maturity in the exploitation of traditional plant resources.
