4. Production of biopesticides by solid-state fermentation

Solid-state fermentation (SSF) can be defined as a cultivation process in which micro-organisms, mainly filamentous fungi, grow in solid substrates with a low concentration of water.

However, the substrate must have sufficient moisture to ensure the growth and metabolism of the microorganisms . The solid matrix can be either the source of nutrients or simply a support impregnated with the appropriate nutrients enabling the development of microorganisms
