3. Different types of LPG transport and their regulations

The transport of LPGs is subject to the regulations governing the transport of dangerous goods.

For land transport, two major texts apply:

  • ADR (European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road);

  • RID (regulations concerning the international carriage of dangerous goods by rail).

These international regulations are supplemented by a French decree known as the "TMD decree", which lays down additional provisions specific to France.

ADR is being developed within the framework of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, and RID within the framework of the Intergovernmental Organization for International Carriage by Rail (OTIF).
