The main recommendations that can be made to a company wishing to equip itself with a SMS that is truly its safety management system and not just a file requested by an authority are :
build on strengths and REX, and gradually fill in the gaps;
look for the perennial, the general;
hurry slowly.

Instead of taking a ready-made SMS model and adapting it to the company, we need to do the opposite: walk around the company like in a store, with a list of SMS components like a shopping list. Identify what already exists in the company, and preferably in its strengths, that corresponds to this or that element of the SMS, what only needs to be given a new name, what only needs...
