1. How the Machines rule works
Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 of the European Parliament and of the Council of June 14, 2023 on machinery (Machinery Regulation) will succeed Directive 2006/42/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on machinery (Machinery Directive) on January 14, 2027. On that date, the Machinery Directive will be repealed and the Machinery Regulation will come into force. As the successor to the Machinery Directive, the main aim of the Machinery Regulation is to ensure maximum machine safety through certain rules applicable to machine design, in order to minimize machine-related accidents.
Unlike the Machinery Directive, the Regulation, by its very nature, will not require any subsequent transposition of its provisions by the various national legislators (the Machinery Directive was transposed, in France, within the Labor Code) and will therefore be directly applicable...
