3. Architecture of industrial control systems (ICS)
3.1 Industrial control system components
In terms of architecture, we can differentiate between several classes of system. Firstly, industrial installations, which may be relatively localized (e.g. production plants) or extend over a territory (e.g. water or energy distribution). A second category is made up of embedded systems (transport, for example), which can be connected to each other or to a supervision center. These two types of architecture are converging towards an "Industrial Internet of Things".
