2. CFD approach
The observations reported in the following paragraphs are largely based on the use of the FLACS and AUTOREAGAS codes. Obviously, not all CFD codes are similar to those cited here, and some observations may not apply to other codes.
2.1 Interests
The advantage of a CFD approach over the multi-energy method is obvious, since the explosion is modeled more accurately. CFD modeling enables us to take into account :
actual plant geometry ;
the characteristics of the actual flammable cloud (no longer limited to a stoichiometric hemispherical cloud);
wave compositions.
It therefore has a much broader field of application....
