Schematically, all that's required to implement the water-assisted injection process is a water source and a pressure or flow regulation system. Whatever the water-assisted injection process selected, it can be used on any recent injection molding machine.
To ensure a correct transition between the end of dynamic injection and the start of water injection, electrical information must be transmitted to the control panel, indicating either the start of injection or the exact position of the screw. In practice, this information is collected by a relay which is triggered when injection starts.
There are essentially two methods of water injection:
defined constant flow rate and pressure control ;
constant pressure and water flow control.

While the situation is complicated with gas-assisted injection molding, it's simple with water-assisted injection molding. In fact, the Institut fûr Kunststoffverarbeitung (IKV) in Aachen, Germany, has been working on this process since 1996, and published its findings in full in the April 1999 issue of Kunststoffe. This publication prevents patent applications from being filed in Europe, enabling the process to be promoted rather...
