2. Production of organic matrix composites
Most organic matrix composites are made from thermosetting resins in all their forms, but the liquid form has often been chosen because it favors fiber impregnation at room temperature. This is probably the reason why thermosetting materials were initially chosen over thermoplastics, which have the necessary mechanical properties to make interesting matrices for composites, as current studies and industrial developments show.

The use of solvent-free liquid resins, which polymerize on site after impregnating in contact with the reinforcing fibers, gives access to molding of very large parts: trawlers or minesweepers 50 m long, tanks and cisterns several meters in diameter manufactured by filament winding or centrifuging.
