4. Examples of commonly used steels

These steels are selected from the tool steel class.

4.1 Impression steel from conventional metallurgy: the example of X38CrMoV5

An example of a common treatment for this steel is shown in figure 8 . The steel is annealed to homogenize its structure, which then consists of ferrite and carbides. This softens the material and facilitates processing. After roughing and semi-finishing, the steel is heat-treated by quenching and tempering.
