3.1 Friction and wear characterization
Generally speaking, friction can be seen as the dissipation of energy induced by the tangential force F required to ensure sliding between two solid bodies (figure 10 ).
It is most often accompanied by the deformation and loss of material, characterized by a wear volume V, of at least one or both of the two bodies.
